Bill Miller
Candidate for San Marcos City Council Place 6
I’m a United States Veteran, retired business owner and blue collar worker. I want to make a difference for my community and the city of San Marcos.
-
I am a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. While serving, I conducted search and rescue operations, law enforcement missions, and I was a Marine Science Technician (oil and chemical spill specialist). I have conducted training seminars for upwards of 500 people, managed a science team of 6, and managed multi-million dollar projects. After successfully performing as a district manager for 2 pest control companies, I started and ran my own small business for 5 years, before retiring due service connected physical limitations.

The term is for one year. I will make significant strides in that time.
1-Food Security-I want to add to the city charter a rule that requires H.O.A.’s to allow its residents to grow food in their front yards and have chickens/rabbits in their back yard(within reason).
2- protecting our natural resources-Our river and aquifers are the most important resource we have. Humans as a species need water. I will vote no to selling the water we have or having it used wastefully and thoughtlessly.
3-Housing-First off, allowing developers to build student only housing in the San Marcos area has to stop. We must make them build regular apartments/multi-use buildings that would benefit the entire city. Secondly, we need to establish a better way to help the unhoused and people on the verge of eviction. By putting more into fixing these issues we will be better equipped to handle other issues that arise.

I think that the best way to address affordable housing is to entice builders to build smaller sustainable homes with water reclamation, rain water collection, solar panels, and native plants and grasses. All of this would reduce cost of the home and bills associated with the homes. Also, enticing employers to pay a livable wage would greatly help with affordability of housing.
-
Yes! I think it’s our responsibility to fund them as best as possible. I also believe that, if other city citizens are using this facility, we should be propositioning the other cities for funding as well.
-
Yes. I would support more bike paths, bike lanes, and sidewalks for the community. Also, I feel that the city of San Marcos needs to nail down a public transportation program so that all residents have the ability to move around town without any issue.
-
I do not support ICE or the police department supporting them. Unfortunately, if the federal government requires local and county police to assist, they have to respond. As far as what I’ve done, I’ve written and published a song that is anti-ICE, and supported every protest that I’ve been able to.
-
I do not support AI, Data Centers, Flock, Axon, or any type of surveillance system. I believe that our fourth amendment rights ARE being infringed upon.. I supported my wife at the last Hay’s county commissioner meeting while she spoke against Axon. The money that would be used to replace a surveillance technology could be better spent on things like supporting our human law enforcement staff by funding homelessness abatement programs and community outreach.
-
I do not support data centers anywhere. When it was up for debate in San Marcos I was there and spoke against it. I am also still fighting them in other counties. Right now we are fighting the Palomino Alpha data center in Guadalupe County.

First off, I would have all landscaping in San Marcos changed to only native plants. These require little to no watering. Second, I would push for semi-permeable parking to catch more water. Also, large concrete areas need to be a thing of the past. We need to embrace alternatives that help the aquifers refill.

I believe that any war is a bad war. I was in the military at the beginning and during the War on Terror. It hurts my heart to see such atrocities happening. In this day and age, it is hard not to be bombarded with the woes of the world. We have to focus on things we can affect the most, before we can change the minds of the world.
